Who are historical Caribbean figures that helped the development of notability or downfall of their country?

I need some Caribbean historical figures for a project. It doesn’t have to be from one specific country, it could be from any caribbean country/island, or the Caribbean as a whole.

    the invadding people from the other countries lead to the downfal.
