Hello,
We just bought a relatively small-medium sized plastic kids playset and placed it on grass only. Will this harm/kill the grass underneath? Is there a better surface to place the playset?
Thank you!
Any time your grass doesn’t get proper sun and water it will turn yellow and die. This includes under pools, playcenters, and even toys. Move it around often to help reduce the affect of the toy.

It will, but it is safer for the kids that it be on the grass and not the concrete. You could always move it periodically so that the grass underneath can get some sun and rain.

Yes, it will kill the grass underneath. A good surface to put the playset above is a thick layer of wood chips (mulch).Sometimes you can find wood mulch for free on Craigslist.org.

Yes it will kill the grass like everyone else on here has said. However, the grass will come back. I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
As far as the wood chips idea, that is a pretty good idea. The problem that I’ve seen in the past is that you don’t know what is in that wood. It may contain termites or other bugs of some sort.
I would go to Lowes or Home Depot and purchase wood chips if you want to do that. They also sell "play-set" bedding which is a rubber type of material. Expensive though. Just put it on the grass and be done with it. When your kids are done playing on it in a few years, move it and let the grass grow back.

It will kill the grass under it and turn it yellow/brown. But if you keep in somewhere for a week and then move it to a new part of the yard you should be fine. That is what we do with my nieces play place one of those plastic ones with the slide and stuff.
